Maybe it comes with age, but I’m really grateful for all the amazing opportunities, experiences and relationships that I have been blessed with. This means I still expect you to flood my inbox, phone and heart with affection and affirmations as you and I celebrate another year of my life 😉

The 30-Day JGS Challenge

The next thing I want to give to you, is the opportunity to (re)build a blending habit for the new year. The 30-Day Jamaican Green Smoothie Challenge is scheduled for January 2017 and is the perfect way to kick off the new year.

So many years and resolutions have gone by and you’re still not as radiant or full of vitality as you’d like. This is why I’m recommending that you choose just one habit to work on for the first 30 days of the year and watch as you wake up your immune system, rev up your metabolism (fat burner) and reprogramme your cravings and tastebuds.

This 30-Day Challenge will NOT require you to eat less or differently than you usually do. All we’re doing is ADDING a 16oz serving of blended fruits and leafy greens to all the deliciousness you enjoy everyday. If you’ve never had a Jamaican Green Smoothie before, the first thing I will tell you is, “If it isn’t creamy and delicious, you’re not doing it properly.” We won’t be blending up your Granny’s washout nor chugging any lawnmower pulp. So, please come prepared to be hooked!

To join the 30-Day Jamaican Green Smoothie Challenge January 2017, please go to to submit your name and email address. We’ve had participants from various nations across the world, like Jamaica, Japan, USA, Canada, Cayman, Trinidad & Tobago, the UK, France, South Africa, Cameroon, and Australia. So, you can get support wherever you are.

I’m really looking forward to taking this challenge with you. Thank you for accepting my birthday gifts and I’m expecting to hear from you soon 😉

Hurdles, Green Smoothies & Nursery Rhymes

The past few weeks have been filled with lots of hurdles, detours and many hectic moments. I’ve been working with a Nutritionist to get a professional review and endorsement for my book, Jamaican Green Smoothies: The Essential Guide To Transforming Your Life, One Cup At A Time, With The Leafy Greens & Fruits In Your Backyard and making some minor additions and formatting in preparation for the release of the paperback copy. Then to complicate things, I started having issues with the PC I use to work while away from home 🙁 But, the experience led me to try out a few Chinese eCommerce companies, and that was pretty enlightening and positive – more on that later. But, all in all, I’m happy, healthy and grateful for many blessings.

30Dy JGS Challenge

I’m happy to report that the first week of the 30-Day Jamaican Green Smoothie Challenge has been fun! It’s so exciting to see all the pics and updates in the JGS Facebook group. The theme this week was Basic Daily Green Smoothies: blends using Pure Water as the liquid. You know I like to keep things simple! But, for next week, we’re kicking it up a notch with an energy boost from Coconut Water and unsweetened Fruit Juices. I had a case of coconut water delivered to my apartment yesterday, so I’m really enthused to start blending up next week’s Premium Daily Green Smoothies. If you haven’t signed up as yet, it’s not too late. Here’s the link:

Now, in other news! LOL. I have to mention that I grew up on nursery rhymes! So, it kind of flowed naturally that I’d share many of them with the Small, Bright-eyed Human. But, soon after reciting a few, I began to notice something sinister and dark in a number of them. Do you read nursery rhymes to your little ones? Well, you definitely need to read this article I wrote for Baby & Blog: 8 Popular Nursery Rhymes With Dark Meanings
Let me know what your thoughts are on nursery rhymes and remember to sign up for the 30-Day JGS Challenge!

March’s 30-Day JGS Challenge: Week 2

Our second week of blending up leafy green veggies and fruit was wonderful for so many reasons! We focused on Diet Green Smoothies (otherwise known as Thickies or Meal Replacement Smoothies) and took some time to look at some of the benefits of enjoying a Green Smoothie Habit.

Green Smoothie On the Go
I usually work from home, but had to do a lot of business-related travelling during the week. So, my faithful mason jar teamed up with a cushioned bottle case for the trek. I never realised how a little bit of planning and preparation could come together to ensure that I hauled an icy glass full of green goodness behind me each day. All this, while I made breakfast for my family and got everyone ready to head out for work and play. So, I know that even these busiest working mother can pull off a green smoothie every day, if she wants.

Mailing List Glitches Fixed
I had gotten complaints from some JGS Challengers about not receiving the weekly emails (containing the week’s recipes and market list), so I switched back to the email marketing service that we used during the first challenge (January 2014) and it seemed to have resolved the issue. In the resolution process, some of you may have received the emails twice as this was the risk I had to take to ensure everyone’s mail box was treated. However, I would encourage you to log into your email account from a computer and look under the “Promotions” tab of the inbox and you’ll see them there. If you’re checking from your cellphone, you won’t get them in the “Primary” tab. Thanks for your patience and understanding, nonetheless. If you haven’t subscribed as yet, please do so using this link.

Major Publicity
The highlight of the week was the invitation I received to be a guest on Television Jamaica’s Smile Jamaica show. It seems that the 30-Day Jamaican Green Smoothie Challenge did not just spread to other nations (as I mentioned in Week 1’s review), but had caught the attention of Jamaica’s number 1 media outlet! *applause* *confetti* However, since I wasn’t able to be on set for the Weekend Smile feature, I invited one JGS Challenger and one JGS Sponsor to represent for us. Suzanne Cole’s awesome testimony about the benefits of taking the 30-Day Jamaican Green Smoothie Challenge inspired and encouraged all who heard it. Then, Cherie Dowdie (of Live Juice Bar) was able to demo the popular “Mango Walk” recipe (with a minor variation), during the feature. The entire presentation was well done and we have been getting lots of positive feedback from the public. I am very grateful for having received this opportunity, and for having strong, beautiful sistren to support and promote the Jamaican Green Smoothie Movement with me.

Special Welcome & the Endo Warriors
We want to heartily welcome all the new members of the JGS group on Facebook; particularly those who discovered us on TVJ, and those who heard about us through the amazing testimonies of our sisters living with Endometriosis. They have been finding major pain relief and healing through the daily consumption of Jamaican Green Smoothies. So, we are happy to have them join us, especially since we are in Endo Awareness Month.

March’s 30-Day JGS Challenge: Week 1

What a wonderful way to start the month? The 30-Day Jamaican Green Smoothie Challenge for March 2014 has begun and we are thoroughly enjoying it.

JGS Newbies & Consultants
We had just completed a mini-challenge within the JGS Facebook group, called the “Simple Six” and it was a perfect opportunity for the Green Smoothie Newbies to get acquainted with the basics of blending up leafy greens and fruits. This was also the time during which many JGS challengers who had false-started during the January challenge, took the time out to get themselves psyched up to take on March’s hurdles. But, what was most heart-warming during the first 7 days of our journey, was to see all of the persons who had entered 2014 as Green Smoothie Novices graduate to the worthy status of Green Smoothie Consultants, if I may brand them so myself. They were excited and fully competent to welcome March’s JGS Newbies and teach them the basics, help them tips and tricks, recommend delicious leafy-fruity combinations and answer all the different kinds of questions that could be asked. Congrats, my darling! I’m immensely proud of you all.

JGS to di Rerl
When I initiated the first 30-Day Jamaican Green Smoothie Challenge, my desire was to create a realm in which Jamaicans could explore then locally-grown leafy vegetables and fruits as they developed the habit of blending for wellness. I had no idea that a movement would have started that has now spread across a number of continents. So, now we are welcoming Jamaicans within the diaspora and lovers of Jamaican culture. It is such a pleasure to see JGS posts coming from familiar and prominent places like Portmore, Kingston and Mobay, but most of us never expected to see so many of them from Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua, Mexico, the USA, Canada, UK, France, Japan, nor Australia. (If I have left out your country, please complain loudly!) But, we are thrilled to have you all.

The first week of our Jamaican Green Smoothie Challenge has come and gone! How was it for you? Did you try any of the recipes from Week 1’s mailing?

The 30-Day JGS Challenge: March 2014

The Jamaican Green Smoothie movement is growing and we seemed to have attracted even more interest and fans since the last challenge. So many persons have been begging for another challenge, while others missed the January train. That’s why we couldn’t hold out any longer. In less than a week, hundreds of blenders will get busy and greens will become our new best friend. We have spent the first two months of the year building a new, delicious habit and the effects are so dramatic that very few can afford to drop off the wagon. In fact, just a day or two without your daily green smoothie and your body will start complaining. Yes! They’re addictive. LOL.

Do you want to…?
Feel Energised
Decrease your food cravings
Have glowing skin and healthier hair
Get rid of your PMS
Enhance your digestion
Get a detox
Get more restful sleep
Boost your immune system
Lose Weight

The next 30-Day Jamaican Green Smoothie Challenge will be starting on 1 March 2014. This is your chance to develop a delicious and healthful habit, while keeping it simple, local and inexpensive.

Before n After Shot

Yes! I know that I’ve kept you waiting. LOL. But, since most Jamaicans try to modify their lifestyles during the 40 days of Lent, I believe that the timing is just right – not just for us, but also for our loved ones and associates.

Now, just let me quickly clarify: The ‘green’ in a green smoothie refers to the inclusion of dark, green leafy vegetables. In the past, we have seen persons blending up non-leaf vegetables (like carrots, string beans or sweet peppers), instead of edible leaves.

The main purpose of the green smoothie is to help us increase our consumption of LEAFY greens. Remember that every vegetable can be classified into one of three groups:
1. Roots, e.g. carrot, potato, beetroot, turnip.
2. Fruits (flower, seed), e.g. cucumber, tomato, sweet pepper, string beans.
3. Leaves, e.g. spinach, cabbage, lettuce, pakchoy

So, this means that when we say ‘greens’, we’re talking about spinach, callaloo, lettuce, kale, celery, moringa, watercress, radish leaves, etc. We always add ripened, sweet fruits to the liquefied greens to ensure it tastes yummy.
